Our Mission
Thanks for checking out The Data Reuse Digest! In writing this newsletter, the goal is to uncover all the different ways that published scientific data can be used to drive research forward - ultimately with an eye on translational developments (new drugs, new clinical guidelines, new technologies, etc.).
I try to keep the writing as plain and simple as possible so that the newsletter can be useful to researchers of any field (not just bioinformatics) and members of the general public as well.
For researchers, especially younger researchers, the idea of this newsletter is to show what successful, publishable work in the field looks like right now. At the same time, it also aims to encourage new kinds of research projects that push the field in new directions, towards new translational goals. For non-researchers, the idea is to pull back the curtain to show what research work actually looks like, and why it matters for society at large.
Here’s how you can get the most out of this newsletter…
Start by exploring the research map - this is our latest picture of research in the field, developed and updated over all our newsletter editions. Each edition centers on a different topic. I try to cover many different kinds of research projects to make this map as comprehensive as possible.
Next, explore the individual research summaries - these are short stories about research publications in the field. They explain what the study accomplished, how the researchers did it, and what it means for the field. Every research summary is linked to the actual study so you can get more specific details if you wish.
The ‘reader keywords’ for each research summary give a list of topics that are related to the featured study - making it easier to associate the study with your own research work or personal interests
Each research summary is also paired with a ‘translational path’ that follows the citation record and maps out the potential long-term influence of the featured study.
